DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES

We have high expectations and standards for our students in the Elite Scholars Program. Therefore it is essential that each student abide by the guidelines of the program in terms of academic, dress, and behavioral standards.

Each school sponsor is aware and very serious about maintaining a high quality community, but if there comes a time when discipline is needed to help our students understand the serious nature of their specific infraction, the school sponsor has full support to do so. Additionally, it should be noted that we are working with some of the best students in the country. I expect that discipline will not be an issue with our students, but I do understand that unique situations arise, and must be dealt with swiftly.

Below are (is) the three strike rule and the various types of infractions that could result in the removal of a student from the Elite Scholars Program:

INFRACTIONS:

  • Inappropriate wear of uniform or wearing inappropriate items while in uniform
  • Conduct or disrespect toward school staff
  • Academic dishonesty; cheating on tests, or breaking classroom rules regarding specific assignments and/or assessments
  • No shows to club, Saturday College or Volunteer events
  • Failing to dress out for an event
  • Any arrests or outside conduct in the community that could create a negative image for our organization
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average drops below a 3.5
  • Failure to complete Saturday College requirements or home school club requirements (specific to ES curriculum)
  • Violation of school rules per the Student Handbook Code of Conduct including, but not limited to discipline referrals that result In School Suspension, Out of School Suspension, Saturday School Suspension or School Detention (Detentions from teachers will be handled independently)

DISCIPLINE:

  1. First infraction will result in a verbal warning from the School Sponsor (SS).
  2. Second infraction will result in a one month suspension from all Elite Scholar events, both required and volunteer. This is a serious matter, and may result in immediate suspension from the program.
  3. Third infraction will result in removal from the Elite Scholar Program. A meeting with Dr. Walles and the Elite Scholars Committee on Discipline will be the only means to petition for a waiver to maintain membership status.

All infractions will be forwarded to the executive director and filed in the appropriate student file. Typically, all discipline is handled at the school level. School sponsors and school administration work hand in hand to ensure equity and fairness. However, School Sponsors are the primary means (source) for all school based club activities, including discipline.

It is my view that these situations will be rare. Both the school staff and I want the best for each student, and we desire for their absolute success. However, it must be understood that the image and reputation of the Elite Scholars Program is very important. It will take teamwork and the adherence to the vision and mission of this program for it to work effectively.
